There
is a deep historical significance attached to this harbor, as it was
established in 1826 and primarily used by Chinese merchants. The harbor
derives its name from the big black rock that sits in its middle. Before
development in the early 1800’s, the area was a complete marshland
teeming with wildlife. Today, the harbor is “visitor friendly” with
renovated and updated facilities. Local residents offer cultural tours
of the harbor, and health resorts and other attractions are available to
tourists. The biggest attraction, however, is still the harbor itself,
which features a daily market, displaying hundreds of varieties of fresh
seafood.
